Thread: php editors

Can any of you guys recommend a preferred

php

  editor to use
on either

linux

  or windows?

perkiset

Thought you were a

Mac

guy now... if so, I use BBEdit and it rocks. When I'm in

Linux

  I'm a VIboi.

jammaster82

Thanks for this info i have access to all os's through vnc,

Mac

intosh rules, true multi-tasking unix style
like the old sun systems in the computer labs!

But i connect through vnc to my friends

mac

os-x

  where i
have my own display, login, timeslice and all using it
simulataneously with him...... I got Xcode installed
and the free pascal plug in and He started
getting nervous when i was installing MAMP and he
cut me off until his toddler stops screaming long
enough for him to do the root password stuff i need..

So im on standby ...

I turned this old,old

mac

into a g3 with an upgrade
board thingy doodle but could only get os 9 on it and the
project was scrapped while i was monkeying with
XPostFacto - to try and get

os-x

  installed,
the whole thing hardware failed and wouldnt
even boot up anymore... just that little

mac

  'beep' when i
tried to turn it on.. you know the cool old school

mac

  beep..

maybe after i finish this project im working on ill get
a http://www.

apple

 .com/

mac

 mini/

perkiset

I have a bunch and they rock. The old G4 versions were sluggish, but the new core-duo

Mac

Minis (bump to 2G RAM) are great. The bang-for-buck on them is very, very good. Tiny and mighty. The cage next-door to mine the guy has about 30 of them for his servers. Pretty cool thing to see actually.

jammaster82

It was xpostfacto i was trying to use to upgrade that

mac

 ..
anyone ever hear of it or need to use it at all?

You still in the same office with your

mac

 intosh nerdbours?

Yea i totally want that 2gb dual core, it can do the world
domination four monitor display thing right?

perkiset

Not with a Mini. For the multi-monitor thing you've got to get at least an i

Mac

  (for two) or a Power

Mac

so that you can plug in bunches of more cards. I have 3 video cards in mine with dual heads each - my next

Mac

will have 4 2 head cards and each one will be better quality.

All that being said, if anyone could figure out how to multi-monitor a Mini I'll bet it would be you. Still wouldn't be the world dominating and sterility-inducing barrage of photons that my desk has tho  Applause

"TURN YOUR KEY SIR!!!"

Sounds Sweet!!

DangerMouse

I use

php

Applauseesigner for Windows, couldnt tell you if its any good though compared with the competition having not tried much else - I like it though.

DM

vsloathe

Vim.

But on Windows I also use

php

Applauseesigner. Kind of bloated but correct syntax highlighting is priceless.

jammaster82

k bbedit 124$,

php

editor 39 euro... (bout 60 bucks)

Cant even Find VIBoi.... can you link me?

I promise i will start coding soon and leave yall alone Applause

deregular

I use Vim as well..

And on windoes I use PSPad.

Color highlighting, I dont know what I would do without it.

jammaster82

OKay , i get it im 'tarded

You mean 'VI' Boy ..... hahaha old school text
editor, i should have known!

Im with it now..  gonna check out pspad, i saw
something on

ubuntu

  with color coding

php

 Edit
gonna check that out too..  I may lean with notepad
though cause I want as little in the way for murphy to
mess with as I can manage to coordinate until i know
where im going comfortably... thanks!

perkiset

Applause Did you actually try to google that? I am impressed.

I have a bit of land I want to show you mwuhahahaha....

vsloathe

I like VIM because it highlights syntax as opposed to VI, but I

learn

ed to program writing C in VI so it's not bad. I just love syntax highlighting, making my idiotic mistakes immediately apparent.

jammaster82

This copy of cpanel i have installed has color coding
code and html editor right in the browser... sweet!

now can someone tell me why they dont make bacon
with just the red crispy part?

Similarly undecipherable to why a butthole can chew off a turd but it's got no teeth.

jammaster82

Applause  hahaha is it possible for soap to get dirty?
If so, how would you clean it up?

OKay I am using notepad, cpanel editor keeps
closing quotes and closing parentheses when
i already have 20 year old habit of doing so automatically
and I am getting errors cause its adding extra
shit...

IM NOT EVEN FIFTEEN MINUTES INTO IT AND I GET
AN ERROR FROM MY CPANEL EDITOR!!!

"whitespace problem" .... whitespace is being added
by the editor im using, mangling the headers according to geeklog their solution is
to use vi....  :p

perkiset

I know lots of people dig it, but I hate editors and such that "do it for me" - much rather be a fast typist and get exactly what I want everytime.

nutballs

i just downloaded and played with

PHP

designer, and i kind of like it. no single IDE is ever perfect, but this one seems to be pretty good. currently i use UltraEdit, mostly because of the FTP/Local mirroring, so I dont have to backup my projects. also it does syntaxing for

ASP

  and

PHP

, which is of course perfect for me.

ratthing

On the

Mac

side, I am now a total fanboi for TextMate.  It's like a lightweight version of e

mac

s with the total "ooo, shiny" factor of OS X.  Many bundles to support many languages, syntax checking inside the editor, customizable coloring, etc, etc.  I pretty much use it for everything but system files (still terminal-based e

mac

s there) except CSS.  For that I use CSSedit.

If you want a full-blown IDE, have a look at this review page: http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/library/os-

php

 -ide/index.html

perkiset

TextWrangler for the

Mac

is the free version of BBEdit, which is excellent as well.

jammaster82

YEAH!! Show invisibles and Show line numbers.. thx again!

mac

s do rule, i was downloading the disk image thinking
I dont know anything about

mac

 s and disk images and
the downloading completed and it said, verifying disk image
mounting disk image, complete, then it was ready for me
in finder automatically...  sweet..    who wouldnt want
a

mac

 ? So easy to use...

vsloathe

I was using Notepad++ for non-

PHP

stuff. I used to use UltraEdit but Notepad++ is FOSS and FOSS > payware.

They make DVI splitter cables--some Dell mobo's use them for multi-head capabilities (the cheap-a$$ spam haus I last worked at used these with 2x 15" Dell LCDs because they were too tight-fisted to buy us wide screens, fsckers).  The issue is can the graphics card handle it--might require low-level hackery, or it could be plug and play.

On 'doze (I have one box I use for p2p apps--uTorrent FTW), I use Programmer's Notepad, also FOSS.

Decided finally on geany.

It is a pretty sweet multi purpose code
editor for gnome.  It suggests function names,
automatically collects your variables and puts
them on the side, auto colors, and it hasnt
fscked up anything yet. real clean.  :: WAVING THE FINGER AT THE PROBLEM GODS ::

Applause

notice the little '-' beside the { symbol..
it does that for html too so you can expand rows of tables
and collapse them... totally sweet.

perkiset

It's got a purdy mouth...

jammaster82

are you trying to INSERT YOUR VALUES into MY_IDE?

::blush::

it even auto suggests any

php

  variable
names in other forms you have open
on any of the other tabs..

arms

@jammaster82 thanks for geany.
just grabbed it - pretty nice all-purpose mini ide thing. this will be great for

php

  and any quick edits in

python

  or sql.
gedit sucks for anything other than plain text.

i tried komodo for

php

but it's too junky and slow for the price (not free) and code complete doesn't seem to work very well for

php

 .
on windows i found

php

 designer was my favorite.

i just tried out aptana for

javascript

. the code complete is nice, it shows little icons in the sugestion dropdown of which browsers support what.
since i haven't done any serious

javascript

in a long time this will be very, very useful. it's eclipse based though  Applause - but it install nicely, just unzip and run.

jammaster82

if im not mistaken geany will compile and execute c code...

i can fall back on vi or vim but the :wq twitch is so much
more motrinducing than ctrl+s, i got two apps, gftp, and geany
simple and sweet.  Thanks for everyones help im a super noob
mole-peopling my way through and im almost finished on
my first paid work at home easy a$$  project.. Applause
