I'm looking for a freeware (or close) code base for a new website project I am working on. The less polish the better because I'll be modifying it rather drastically I'm sure. I'll put it all together myself if need be, but I am hoping that someone might have run across something like this:
Something like an arcade game site, but users can post links to a moderation queue, then once their accepted they go into a portal/directory like structure. Like to have user ratings, latest posts etc. Blogware just doesn't see to cut it, neither do forumwares. Anyone seen something like that there? TIA, /perk thedarkness
Have a look at osdate perk, might have some of what you are looking for, worth a look anyway.

thanks for that.
i just checked out osdate myself. i've been thinking of doing something in this area. something community-dating-social -networking-ish.it's not exactly what i need, i'll probably roll my own, but it seems to have all the standard dating features. it's worth a look under the hood in my case. perkiset
Nice TD - thanks for that.
Gona have a look at the code - my app is *very* different, but many of the concepts apply. I'll have a look and see just how much mangling I'd have to do to get it there. Thanks! /p m0nkeymafia
I can never modify other peoples stuff...NEVER
Itll usually take a while to figure out exactly what its doing, then I'll want to do it my way [which is usually better ![]() So usually I just start from scratch or use something out of the m0nkeymafia library of c0d3 perkiset
Most of the time I agree... but in some cases it's just so damn much code that it's nice of others have ground it out first as well. SMF, for example - not really that magical, but a shitload of code to test and debug.

whats SMF? lol man I feel like a n00b o_O

![]() The software base for the forum you're replying at man. Simple Machine Frameworks - good stuff. Syndk8 and a BIG LOT of others are one it. I just use it for example.m0nkeymafia
is it easy to customize for your own template?
i always make my own designs + frameworks, but forums are a pain to write so i want one i can easily slot into my existing templating system. please say yes please say yes!!! oh and is it free? ![]() perkiset
Easy: it'll take you a little bit to get the rhythm of it. There are tools to help, but I went right at the code and dug in. There is a little-used but public board here for discussion of it if you like. Once you understand the code layout it is easy and quick to manipulate. I do a lot of forums for my biz clients now and it works like a charm.
And tis free! http://www.simple machines.org/ |
