I had the dickens of a time trying to find support on the <<< or Heredoc operator when I first saw it a few years ago... because I had no idea what it was called

Doh! Just posted a comment on this in the "really simple synomizer function" thread. As a matter of interest, here is a reference to it as early (perhaps) as 1977 (if it was in the original "bourne shell"

I've been using that operator for many many years in Perland never known the name of it, though just opened up the O Reilly camel book (one of my olderPerlbooks) and seen it is the 1996 second edition and it is documented in there on page 43 so I should know. I guess I never read it!![]() perkiset
It's funny JD... in old languages, I knew everything about everything about them... because they'd come with a for-reals manual and as soon as I had the basics under my belt I'd go hide and read the whole thing.
But with the newfangled stuff (particularaly PHPand JS) you can buy all kindso books, but they'll just show what *they* think is important, and not necessarily dump the whole language as a reference. So if you don't know what to call something, it's not googlable. Makes for a sort of dungeons and dragons approach to new languages that I'm really not sure I like...
