In Leopard, sharing anything on your

mac

 hine is a snap. Go to System Preferences, select Sharing, File Sharing, and add the drive/resource/folder/whatever you want to share.

But in Tiger, it's not quite so simple. The Samba setup that File Sharing uses won't allow you to select WHICH drives you want to share, so it can be a bit tricky. So here's the quick and easy way:

Fire up a terminal, become the root user (sudo su, then your password). Edit /etc/smb.conf - this is where the shares are. External drives are found in the /Volumes directory. My recommendation would be to make the name of your drive standard stuff - no spaces or other special characters because it will make the share just that much more tricky.

Add something like this to your smb.conf:

[Net

 Applauserive]
comment = Here you describe what this share is about
path = /Volumes/myDriveName
browseable = yes
read only = no
create mode = 0750

>Net Applauserive is what it will be seen as when someone is browsing for it. Stop File Sharing and start it again, the  share will be available next time you try to Connect To Server...

/p
