Thread: rpm hell
jammaster82

is this where you install one program,
and then you install another and it
cockblocks the first one and like
even files are missing?

I hate RPMs and never use them. I know lots do, but I prefer the old fashioned DL the source, configure/make/make install process - never fails me.

Ditch the bitch and make the switch.

that is one of the main reasons i ditched redhat years ago.
rpms are always busted etc.

for most mainstream shit no need to do a compile/make
u just need to do for special shit

RPMs have come a long way since the implementation of yum.

Dependency hell is almost non existent in my experience these days, at least in Fedora 6+. The only problem I usually have is if I am trying to install a specific version. Try yum, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Of course some things you still have to build but that's part of the beauty of it ;-)

Cheers,
