I have been using OpenMosix for years.

it is a Kernel hack for making a symetrical cluster system. My cluster is down from the height of about 400 PCs to about 100 now.

I love it, as it "simply works", although took some in house hacking of the code to make it more stable on desktop

 hine that is way out where in the TintaWeb (sitting in a remote DC, rather than in my office) and although this particular

 hine is mine and I can update the kernel I am thinking that I would like to be able to add the functionality of the kernel mods, within userspace - IE Not adapting the kernel - so that normal, non dedicated / VPS hosting can be adapted.

I used to work with a great Kernel hacking guy but he has gone onto other things now and I no longer have him available and I don't personally have enough time, knowledge or experience to enable this myself.

Do you, or anyone you know, have knowledge of OpenMosix, kernel hacking and converting kernel mods to be user space mods ?

If so do you have any ideas ?

Cripes I don't even know any kernel boys. And I stay as far away as I can, since I like the appliance like nature of it and I can get pissy if it doesn't work... if I touch it it will certainly be less stable LOL...

But I'll keep my ears open for anyone passing by

My experience is limited to tinkering with a driver or two on a very low scale.

This isn't OpenMosix, but have you looked at hadoop? http://lucene.

I played with Mosix many years ago, before it was OpenMosix.  I didn't do much with it, it was just a test.

However, hadoop looks very promising, and Yahoo! is even using it.  I believe (and they should) Yahoo! is contributing to the project as well.

Among other things, it implements "MapReduce" which seems to be all the rage these days in processing ridiculous amounts of data.
