Thread: GWT
cdc

Just talked with a company who was using the GWT. I had never heard of it before so I did a quick search:

http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/

It looks pretty sweet. My only complaint is that I'm just

learn

 ing  about it now.

Anybody have any experience?

I just looked at it.
It is basically one of those cool projects that take code of one language to output code in another language.
In this case Java ->

javascript

 .

In

python

  you have pyrex which takes

python

  like code and makes C
and in scheme you have my beloved chicken scheme
which takes scheme and make C/C++ Applause

you already know basics of java.
I presume you have used AWT and SWING. (personally i hate java so i just glanced at it).

Basically it ap

pear

to offer a GUI, methods to manipulate a webpages, and some sort of RPC class.
you can read a class tree.

so install the compiler. (the thingie that makes JS code, i think for test purpose you can make it do java code).
make a couple test proggies.

call those morons back and tell them you are an expert in GWT

PS: during the interview don't get into an arguement with the chief programmer and tell him he is a fuking moron.

The thing that's really drawing me to it is:

quote
You write your front end in the Java

programming

language, and the GWT compiler converts your Java classes to <>browser-compliant<>

JavaScript

  and HTML.

So if a new browser comes out and breaks something I'm guessing Google will update their compiler so all you have to do is download it and recompile.

I hate messing with cross-browser issues, and it would be nice to outsource this to Google for free.  Applause

No lie.

And Google <i>promises</i> to only send you emails that market to you based on your interests, defined by your choice of variable names...  Applause
