so I have COCKs Inte
rnet, and the DNS blows. So since my router blew up today, I had to get a new one, and needed to add the DNS servers back in. Well. I discovered there is a public DNS that actually responds to queries in a timely fashion, unlike the cox servers. so if you use cox and you wonder why things take a while to respond that should be lightning quick try out these DNS servers. 4.2.2.1-6 easy to remember also which is nice. The response time is MUCH better than cocks. vsloathe
Yah been using those for a while as well. AFAIK they are the AT&T root DNS servers. Low level backbone-grade stuff.
nutballs
actually from what I read, they are a distributed
network of servers. so even though you use 4.2.2.1, it may not actually be the same server I hit. there is some crazy routing that goes on and actually figures out the closest server, and serves requests from there. kind of like Akamai but for DNS. At least thats what I read in a thread trying to figure out how those servers can beat the speed of light for response times...vsloathe
IME, and I could be wrong, but those servers eventually get called from whatever secondary DNS you are using. So it makes sense they'd be faster, as there are fewer hops.

![]() ![]() ![]() Sweetness Nuts, Melikey bigtime. Cocks does blow, although with the business service I get slightly better response than with residential. I'm only at 3M - where u at? nutballs
im at suckballs consumer service. i get anywhere between "the inte
rnetis down" to "wow I was able to get to google"perkiset
Do you have residential? I do like the business CSRs, they have at least 1/2 a brain.
And wow man, works nicely. PinkHat says thank you as well ![]() nutballs
yep residential. can't really justify the biz class.
yea the inte rnets actually work now. lol, only took like 6 years of cox service to figure out this little gem...vsloathe
I award you 7 inte
rnets for posting this information here. |
