mac

it is java -jar xf unix

Looks like you just upgraded to Leopard - when I am sudo'd into su I get the same prompt - it's a little weird looking I agree.

If I type simply "jar" at the command line I get the help page. I did a quick look about and

Apple

  claims that

OS-X

is one of the few OSs that come with a fully operational Java deployment by default, so I am confused about what's happening for you. Could it be a path issue? jar is supposed to be in /usr/bin and that directory should be in the path. if you type

find / -name "jar"

it might tell you where the executable is, and that'd give us more symptoms as to why it isn't working.

thanks for the help.  i typed the command as stated but it did nothing and said nothin, just as it did with any other command i typed... returned me to the same bash prompt.  something funky is goin on with Pc

Linux

OS (not Leapoard) going into trash now?  perhaps!

Perhaps he needs to make compile java if it can't find it?

I don't know, I'm very un-experienced when it comes to

OSX

 .

Makes more and less sense now - I thought it was Leopard which was confusing... since it's not, I'll bet you're right VS and Java needs to be reinstalled.
