Hello, I'm looking for the most basic CMS that is available, I've started working on my own, but really need something to reverse engineer.  Any Ideas on a good one that I can

learn

  from?

i hate reverse engineering, itll prob take you longer than making it yourself
id personally look at what you want to do at the most basic level, then

learn

it or ask questions till its done
best way mate!!

"Most Basic Content Management" - I agree with MM - why pull the trigger on something as complicated as a CMS if the needs are most basic? What is it you are really needing to accomplish? What are your intentions?

Well, perk,  as you know, i'm trying to

learn

  enough

php

that in the next year I will be able to get at least an ENTRY level position in the field.  Really just trying to get down some of the basics of how to create

php

enabled web pages.  Maybe CMS isn't really what I'm thinking of.  For example:

Heres a sample page I found:

http://www.thefurnitureshowrooms.co.uk/

What are the basics to create a page like that?  Possible just need some guidence,  or some

tutor

ials on how to set up the databases, and how to know what products go in which tables and all that fun stuff.

I just want to be able to fill the needs of a client saying "I need a database driven website to sell products that I have online"......

Gotcha Rob -

First off, did you go throught the Static HTML Site to Dynamic

PHP

example thread I posted a few days ago? It's got a demo site attached to this domain as well as full examples.

Second, the tiled graphic thang at the top of that site is a flash trick... that's really another game entirely. Some say that it's pretty simple and functionally I'd agree - but the issue is the artistic eye of putting such things together so that they look good.

Tell you what - I'll tar.gz that entire demo site and post it in the thread so that it's downloadable - you'll then have a complete

PHP

site that is pretty damn simple to look at and see how it all works.

Lemmee know - I think that's your best immediate bet. There's also a "Nutballs

Learn

ing " thread going on right now - NutBalls is stretching out to add a MySQL and

PHP

methodology to his toolbox - that's a good place to hang and post as well.

But back on topic, particularly since you have reminded me what you are looking for, adding the complexity of a CMS is (IMO) the wrong way to go - given your goals, getting your hands as dirty as possible is the best way to get familiar. You'll have no difficulty using an app to manage content if you know what the underpinnings of a

PHP

site look like. If you're looking to sell your knowledge of "quickly adaptable tools" however, you might think about downloading the WordPress blog system as well as the SMF codebase (that's what this forum runs on) - they are both *pretty damn complicated* for a n00b to tackle in terms of code, but for being able to instantly apply a working framework and then sell the management of it to someone else, that's a good way to go.

Applause
