This is getting stranger and stranger by the minute... I just go this on Firefox...

REF =

IP = 24.218.233.12 (modified)

UA = Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100625 Firefox/3.6.6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)

URI = /refer_test.php

I always come here first cause you guys always seem to have the answer.....

Hi Bompa,
Thanks you got me on the right track.... could you please click that link again, its set to save the referer to the server and it won't matter if I can trip it or not if i can save it, it will mean I can program it to let folks into the site if I can capture the referrer....
Pls click the test link again...

I clicked and got the correct ref and such as well.

Are you browsing through a service? Or through a firewall or security proxy?

Because that's the only thing that makes sense to me.

This is wild... #1 above is from the site that normally I use to come in and be directed... I direct them into my site based on the fact that they came from this known site... worked for years.. nothing that I know of changed.

#2 Above is me clicking the link in the Bompa forum.... I arrive with no referrer...

#3 is someone from Bompa forum... maybe nutballs or bompa... I disguised all ip's by changing to 123.123 etc...
This is the only one with a referer as you can see..

The items above were trapped and saved on the server from visitors coming to my site...
The forum referral is very obvious...even from my own thread...

Are you browsing through a service? Or through a firewall or security proxy?

OOPS! that might be it, I did use the firefox make me invisible but I thought it was turned off... is there a simple way to check.. and could it affect another computer on the same network even though it does not have firefox....

Bompa asked about that, but I did not remember I turned on that silly make me invisible.... help how can I see if its off...

Tom

That is not it, I just checked firefox and all the private browsing is for is to leave no history files and it says it shuts down when you close firefox...
I am using Norton Security, but have never changed any settings since installed. and this only started in the last couple of weeks... does anyone know of anything I can check in the Norton area...
I suppose I could try shutting it down completley.... yes I will try that...

#3 is me.

hmm.
try going HERE

its a public referer header shower thingy page. just to make sure its working for other sites. if you dont have a ref on that page. then your broken.

mind you, you have to click it (just making sure your not pasting urls into the browser...)

Yah, try that link nutballs gave you.

Try it with both your pcs, I bet the other one will work.

Both pcs are reporting no referrer.. one is XP and the other is Windows 7

Since they are both on the same modem, there has to be a firewall somewhere shutting me down..
I disabled Norton and all Windows security on both puters with negative results.
The only thing I have done ever is on one computer I selected private browsing on Firefox for a few minutes last week.
Firefox says that only affects logging history and it also says its disabled when you close fire fox..
Any other ideas?

My forward by referrer is now working, but not for me.. as it does forward on the referrer... even if I cannot see it..
But this is really aggravating.... maybe I will try my old dial up to see if Cox Cable is screwing with me.... that is My high speed IP provider..

Well, it seems certain that it is on your end.  I still think it would be of value
to know for sure if your browser's (specifically) are actually sending a referer.
You can get that info by installing LiveHeaders for Firefox.

Based on what I am reporting.. I would say I am lying.. but I know I ain't...
And its on two different unrelated computers with the only connection being the same IP on cox internet....
I will try playing with the live header thingy later tonight... I would just freaking give up but I really need this to work cause I have used it for years and I need it for years to come...
Guess I will search for "Firefox Live header plugin" and see what comes up.
