You're right, an interesting read. Personally I don't know anyone that harbors that much angst against the language.

It is not elegant, it is not cohesive and is fraught with inconsistencies, just as the author points out.

But also, just as the author points out, it is a really efficient Get IT Done language. Personally I dig it. I surrendered elegance and grace with C++ and Object Pascal a long time ago. Now PHP just is slam bang get it done. And because of it's simplicity and straightforwardness (even with its inconsistencies) it has a strong place in my tool box.

"Purist" coders sort of piss me off. They just are still stinging from not getting laid in high school.

Smiley IMO, that very impulse is one of the primary drivers for personal and social unrest.
