so i started coding something to download email from gmail, realizing someone has already done this before (panel gmail notifiers and such) did a search "python gmail" and found libgmail.
checked the repos and there it was. python-libgmail. it does everything. i just needed to download messages. awesome.
now i can spend the time that would have gone to coding posting this.

also found gmailfs. it's a python app for mounting a gmail account as a drive. been ported to mac and win i believe.

Why don't u just download using pop3 ?
(that is really easy to do using python also )

was going to with poplib. started implementing it and was fucking with the object retrieved, trying to figure out what i need.

you mean oo php looks like python had a baby with perl but it turned out the father wasn't really python it was  :barf:asp.

i use google apps for domains
i just finally decided that it really doesnt matter what a big faceless corp knows about me. They would find it out anyway. big deal if they can properly target me with ads. at least i never get a tampon ad.

I get it but am just not there. My paranoia still runs hot about them.

There has been some discussion in my household about not sending paper checks for my bills any longer, but that will probably take about a decade for me to get comfy with.

well with banks, your data is probably already in the webaccess system, whether you use it or not, so why not actually "control" it by owning it?

also what really is google going to do with your bank account number? drain your account? The only thing I can see every happening is google getting subpoenaed to release all known information about you for an investigation. But that would happen piecemeal anyway with whatever services you use, so big deal. Now, mind you, if McCracker wins, im leaving the country and un-gridding myself until the apocalypse blows over.
