An impressive contingent of top software architects are busily working on the Wave future. I love the name "Google Wave." It's going to hit the tech world like a tsunami but few people seem to recognize that it's even coming and why.
For the record, the privacy issues found in Google Docs and gmail are independent of other offerings (like Chrome). Wave might have similar privacy concerns and it may very well not. It's promised to be completely open source though and if they allow "stealth mode" usage, Wave is poised to dominate the SharePoint/collaboration market. It also is a fundamentally new way of thinking about "email." Email will probably never leave but will eventually become an antiquated form of communication much like the carrier pigeon.
Eventually every thread of communication will exist as a thread within a thread within a thread, etc. etc. Emails longer than IM/Twitter style communication will behave like deeply nested forum topics with contributors receiving intelligent notifications "wiki-style" for only those parts that are relevant to them. Scrolling through pages of useless forwards/replies and flat searches for text that returns nothing or far too much will be part of this carrier pigeon past. Those who choose cloud-based collaboration tools such as Wave over classic email hosting will outpace their competitors so fast the rest will follow suit or find themselves unable to compete

This is just a tech blog post about a Force.com/Wave integration:
