If you're using a system that requires a random seed, then the execution speed of that code will make it all within the same moment and random will not work correctly.

Seed with a ms if possible.

What language is that? There's got to be a smoother way of doing that.

dude its vbscript im running from a batch file
and i got it to work with
a 'randomize' statement  this thing is controlling
windows with sendkey commands doing some
crazy bot trick im wayyy off track today but
havin a blast!....but ive noticed this
in other languages.... just wondering why
a list of random numbers would have to be
randomized every time.....

its pure evil.... it loops till you open your browser:

Code:
Set objShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
Do Until Success = True
    Success = objShell.AppActivate("Mozilla")
    Wscript.Sleep 1000
Loop

then it types in random things muhahahaha
gonna try and stalk the cache soon and post sig links... j/k

Randomize is doing your seed. The problem is that normal old computers are actually not that good at truly random numbers. So if you seed them with (something) then the sequence you get back will be pseudo random. The problem is if you seed it with exactly the same number LOL or at least that was the problem way back in the day ...

Most really modern systems will seed with some kind of time+MAC address+network weirdness to endeavor to get closer to random. But at the core, they're still just doing their own Randomize.

Sounds like fun over there ... nefarious coding always makes me smile. I, on the other hand, am knee deep in the arcane world of SNMP and alternately loving and hating it. But at the end of the day it'll be something that I'll be quite proud of Smiley

Gotcha... read up a bit on that thx for your response.... im thinking a more truly random number
might just be loop 1 through 6 and the 'random ' time you pick it to stop is the dice roll..... lol

couldnt really concentrate yesterday many interruptions so i picked a tiny little script and hacked
away at it... turned it into a home rolled eliza bot... my strategy was to just ask other people
about themselves in a chat room... by asking others about themselves i went undetected all night
long as i slept... posting every 45 to 490 seconds... hahahah if people werent so completely absorbed
with themselves i might not have passed the turing test lolol .....  back to the boring stuff now..

in what way are you using snmp?  (blows dust off brain simple network mail protocol, right?)

Simple network management protocol.

It's the notification language used by embedded appliances, battery backups, routers, switches ... It became the default notification protocol for whole lots of things. Just for giggles, check out irealizer - it's a freeware snmp walker. Then point at your local switch (provided it has snmp, most do - you may just need to turn it on) and then you can see all the nifty stuff the switch has to say. Printers do it, hell even windows does it. You may be amazed to find how much data is around you that you can collect.

I'm working on a grand data collection scheme that can take data from any kind of source, posted to a server via many different types of adapters then stored in a robust datapoint matrix. SNMP, of course, is one of those data input sources. Then I have a web app that allows you to view the results of that data in a pleasant, human way. I'll post a couple screen shots in a while. It's a blast.

LOL @ Bomps - You know me better than you think mate Wink

Here you go Phae - If you were back in my stable we'd be having some damn fine times with this stuff...

Here's an example of about 90 seconds after I received a call that one of the network links for a client was down. Can you guess which one? The second image is a human-friendly display prototype. Both are animated and use a 2-pane technique to eliminate flicker. They're very pretty. The line chart scrolls from right to left.
