I almost didn't register because I didn't want to agree to this part of the user agreement:

You agree, through your use of this forum, that you will not post any material which is false, defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, adult material, or otherwise in violation of any International or United States Federal law. You also agree not to post any copyrighted material unless you own the copyright or you have written consent from the owner of the copyrighted material. Spam, flooding, advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are also forbidden on this forum.

But then I remembered that I don't follow user agreements, so I registered anyway.

So I just bothered to read everyone else's intros and they actually talk about themselves so here it goes:

I chose Computer Science as a major because in high school I asked my calculus teacher what math-related major makes the most money. This being 1997, he suggested something to do with computers. I went to a "ghetto" high school that didn't have any computers, programming courses, or faculty competent enough to teach them (they only offered 3 AP classes, but we were encouraged to skip our afternoon classes every Friday to attend rallies for our football team...you get the idea).

Anyway, when I showed up at a tech school as a CS major I was way behind. I had never programmed or seen UNIX and most (if not all) of my peers knew this shit inside out. Money is a motivator and after many sleepless nights and tutor sessions I finally got it. Well, I still don't get it as much as some of the people here (and never will), but I know enough to be dangerous.  Mobster

Graduated, went to work building Java and C++ apps for a defense contractor, got a Masters Degree, found syndk8, quit the job, moved to the Med, etc.

If I had to pick one language to program in for the rest of my life it would probably be Java. It makes the most sense to me, which probably has alot to do with the fact it was the first language I really grasped after struggling with C++ my freshman year of college.

Thanks C - I am still working through all the crap on SMF. I'll get at that immediately - it should say something more like, "You're a wanker and must accept this if you choose to be here. That is all."

Thanks, good eye,

Med as in Mediterranean?  Where did you move to there?  The Kaptain wants to go somewhere warm...
