Being able to type in a windows license key without looking at the keyboard is now my indicator of being a true touch typest.

I don't mean being able to if you consciously try to. I mean doing it without thinking.
I touch type, even for programming and non-alphanumerics as well (at least most).
But, man oh man, I am hunt and peck when doing serials. god forbid I screw up and need to start over...

ROFLMAO No lie. I can even blow doors with eyes closed ... but you put a damn license key in front of me and I can barely move.

I haven't heard hunt and peck in a long time!  I technically am one of those hunt-and-peck typists.  The only thing it causes me to do is to look at the keyboard while I type.  I can type pretty darn fast though.  But every time I've tried to stick with looking at the screen while typing two things happen - my eyes go batty and my Carpal Tunnel gets much worse much more quickly.

Back in the day when they were telling the world how best to do things like typing and using a mouse they didn't have enough data to realize that keeping your eyes glued to the screen and keeping your hands in relatively the same position for long periods of time is actually a "bad" thing.  As a result I completely abandoned any attempts to conform to this method since my eyes and my hands are working really well these days Smiley

Hehe.. that's actually true. That's the first time I really thought about it. Everytime there's serial I'm also hunting and pecking reeeaaaallllyyyyy carefully Cheesy

Hmm, I'll take a completely unnecessary turn and ask that does anybody know what is actually the best layout for keyboard? I have heard so many times that QWERTY isn't the optimal one and it was only adopted because of typewriters.. did you know that you can write "typewriter" only with the first row? Cheesy This was because this way sales people could demo it being really fast and easy to use...

Higher speeds have been obtained with the dvorak keyboard.
All of the more commonly used keys are grouped together, making
fewer reaches and more in place keystrokes.

I took typing in high school which was a semester of touch typing drills
on a keyboard with no letters on the keys so ive touch typed ever since
then.  The lady would walk around the room shouting out characters to
type and we had to type them as we heard them.

I just hope that some other ways of using computers come out. Mouse
and keyboard seem so old school.

There're probably a whole lots of ways that we could make typing faster... but MAN I have no idea how long it would take me to unlearn how to type and relearn. I don't even know if I am willing to try. FFS I get slowed down enough when M$ moves around the formatting table for fonts and paragraphs  ROFLMAO

I heard that the qwerty was developed to keep the hammers from sticking together on the old typewriters and just became de facto...

Probably part of the large truth, sounds reasonable.

I use one of those "hacker" keyboards with proportionally-weighted keys. You just can't beat the feel. The keys under your weaker fingers have a few more tenths of an ounce of weight to them so they travel more easily.

I really like keyboards that click, but my coworkers and wife...not so much  ROFLMAO
