I've gone all VOIP for our home and office. It's great. Additionally, we are using pfSense on a NetGate appliance, a whopping $207 per at quantity 1 for firewall and VPN.

The challenge is that pfSense only allows for 1 SIP registration by default. SIP is the protocol used for IPPhones to hookup to their mothership. The default is port 5060 and if you keep pfSense in it's default configuration then it won't allow for a port rewrite (NAT) allowing phones to use a different port.

The solution turns out to be pretty simple: Go to Outbound NAT. Disable automatic outbound nat by clicking Manual. It will ask if you want to create an automatic rule. Say yes. Edit that rule and uncheck the Static Port option. Reboot pfSense and you're good.
