"Maricopa County sheriff's deputies on Wednesday stormed into a county building, seized control of a computer system and threatened to arrest county employees if they tried to stop them, according to county officials.

County management responded by asking a Maricopa County Superior Court judge for a temporary restraining order against the Sheriff's Office."

Jeez. The guy has been sheriff WAY too long now and feels emboldened to do just about whatever he pleases. He's actually pretty frightening and the boneheads here in AZ keep voting for him. The people I know that either know or met him have nothing but *bad* to say about him.

He is fantastically popular with the religious right and the authoritarian conservatives - but to anyone with a brain he is becoming more dangerous all the time.

Scares the hell out of me, frankly,

Megatool.  If this meathead continues without being punished and stopped, it will set a chilling precedent for the rest of the country.  That sucks for AZ - sry guys!

Vomit Police Vomit Police Vomit Police Vomit Police

It reminds me of when the DEA publicly commits crimes (on the state level) by forcing their way into legal medical marijuana facilities and confiscating everything including the money, often arresting the individuals involved.  Wouldn't it be great to see local authorities arresting DEA agents?  ROFLMAO

i've seen that guy on tv.
he's fucking crazy. one of these psychos who REALLY believes in the war on drugs. like if you smoke a joint you deserve to die.

weren't people complaining about him rounding up illegals?

can someone explain this dem vs repub illegal immigrant thing to me?
we don't really have the same thing in canada. conservatives might be more in favour of toughing entry into canada and and liberals for loosening restrictions but i don't think either party supports illegal immigration. we also don't have a huge influx of people from one nation.

It's about the same in the US.

I just read a blog comment on Perk's blog by one of the conservabots who was complaining how "illegal immigrants are destroying our economy". Man, did I have a belly laugh at that chestnut.

but i don't think either party supports illegal immigration.

Lots of unspoken agendas in both parties so it's tough to get a true assessment of actual opinions.  I'm a dem mainly because I think it's the party that has the best chance to get things I support done.  I actually think the rep vs dem football game is a sideshow provided for us to feel engaged without looking at all issues from the perspective of truth first, not party.

But I digress.  Dems and reps all claim to be anti-illegal immigration but I believe dems have an agenda to work on the "illegal" part of the problem where reps want the "illegal" part to remain so their big money interests can continue to have cheap labor from undocumented immigrants.  As soon as you begin to acknowledge a person as "legal," they are afforded more rights, services and protection that gives them a bigger share of the American pie.  Kind of like an "enemy combatant" can be waterboarded but an American or even a prisoner cannot.

But in truth I think both sides understand the importance and benefit of immigrants and know that having them here is a good thing.  The problem with the Nazis, ahem... I mean Republicans, is that their massive red-state following with chillingly low levels of education too often take them literally.  So instead of simply keeping the "illegal" status and have controllable, low wage, expendable subservients (glorified slavery), they think if we just rounded them all up and dumped them over the border America would be healed.

I'd love to see these wingnuts doing the jobs currently handled by immigrants - in another country - with the stigma and fear of being "illegal."

Yeah, the most ironic part of all is that 99+% of them (the rednecks Republicans) were just born here, and have done nothing more special or deserving of respect than existing. Wow, it was so hard for you to gain your citizenship, you must be so proud to be an American.

I've always thought that as well. Considering most citizens born here can't answer half the citizenship questions correctly...
