My monthly health insurance premium (JUST health insurance, nothing else) is more than 70% the average family income of Arizona.
I just don't understand how people can survive today.

don't get sick is kind of the plan i stick to. i had a personal health insurance plan that just covered in the event of emergencies and it was a lot more per month than i cared for. i can't imagine having a whole family on there.

As you know, PinkHat is a breast cancer survivor. They have us by the short hairs. I dare not touch it or change anything for fear of some actuary looking at things and going
Freakin' crazy.

Wait until you cross the 55 yr old threshold. Then the rates go 'hockey stick' on you.

That's actually really close to one of the newest developments. Frickin' actuaries. Bah.

>70% the average family income of Arizona
That's about $75/month, right? hhh.
One of my corporate duties has been to 'manage' (Hell, there is no managing ...you are only allowed to react. Or give up.) a small Blue Cross / Blue Shield group policy. I imagine it's roughly the same in AZ as NC, but there are two components of rate increases; age-related and medical cost inflation. Medical cost inflation has averaged around 10% annually for some years now, I think. But your age related increases are doled out in 5 year segments. Hit 50 and they start getting your attention. At 55, they hurt. At 60, they burn you a new asshole.
