so I put UB on my mini. single boot, not dual sillyness.
everything is working great except....
when I boot it, headless and keyboardless, the lan is not alive. it never comes up. I cant ping it. however, once I plug in a keyboard, and hit any key at all, i can then ping the mini.
thoughts as to how to make it wake the lan on boot so I can remote in?

Hmm. Haven't done that, so I'm out of my depth. But that is really peculiar. Of course a mini running OS-X doesn't suffer the same, but that doesn't apply here.
So I guess my response is, "I have no damn clue. Sorry meng."

Check to see if your kvmd comes up at boot. I always have to unload it because Virtualbox doesn't like it, but it could be that it never gets loaded unless you have physical keyboard hardware attached.
Other than that - Ubuntu forums is usually a good resource.

thanks v after a bit more digging and typos because I am tired, I got the answer... the mac mini is evil. OSx can boot headless, everything else it seems cannot. go figure. so... there is a hardware hack, pretty simple. http://soledadpenades.com/2009/02/10/mac-mini-as-a-headless-server/

and it works. so perk, make note if you chose to put anything other than osx on yours. the reason I am is because I am using mine as a dev box, and want everything running the same OS.

ya. its FUCKING STUPID. however, the hack is elegantly simple, and well within my comfort zone. now all i need is to epoxy that shit on there, and its all good.
