Anybody happen to know a country that doesn't have any patent law? It's pretty obvious that US has become not so safe place to incorporate because you'll always have to be afraid that some retard company is going to get patent like this and sue you.

M$ ended up paying out 50M damages.

The law in PH is way different compared to USA.
Also you can not sue for huge amounts of damages, the filing fee is based on amount of damage you are claiming. It is roughly a 1% of amount you are claiming damages. It is impossible to get high awards like in USA.

Legal system here is russian roulette and best to avoid it . For starters no trial by jury. Also slower then heck. And even if you win, very hard to collect the claims.

Different cultures have a different idea of right and wrong. Rumor has it that at least 2000+ have been killed in election violence. I know even in the small town i live in, which is a "quiet area" 5 people have been killed. In most cases it is the politicos soldiers from the private armies fighting each other. In that case it is viewed you are a politico's soldier, that is the risk you take. Or you have taken money for votes, and then it is found out you have taken money from the other side. In that case you are dishonest and get what you deserve.

The suspected criminals recieved a letter that they should relocate to a new town or they will die. Some people decided not to relocate. Majority of people support such activities since crime dropped dramatically in that area.

Where i live rumor is you should not deal drugs or rape women. If you do such things you will die. I do know that where i live drug use and rape is non-existent. I have no desire to challenge the system.

Another danger is if you get put on a "hit list". Most politicos maintain a "hit list" of enemies. You could be on this list for a long time before anything happens. Problem as a foriegner you are out of the loop, so you might not know you are on the list. If you find out you are on the list, you better go to the politico and politely explain it was a misunderstanding and make peace.

Another problem that americanos have is they think they can just throw $$$ at the problem. As a result they insult the politico in power and get themselves on a death list.

The politico has to have the majority support of the people. His soldiers if they think they can get a better deal else where, might defect. Also if they do "unjustified killings" popular support will drop. So this is why often the politico might take the side of the "little guy" so he can maintain his "robin hood" image. A good politico has to be like julius cesar, loved by the masses, very intelligent and a military general to boot .

Nice find nop.  Copyright infringement is largely a lame game the big players play for punitive profits, period.  All else is uninformed and often passionate parroting.

M$ was playing against a stacked deck. I can not find the blog post made by a uni student but, it went something like this.

PH University made a set of manuals for M$ product, they released them under GPL.
M$ put these manuals on one of their DVD. Which is "legal" since they where GPL.
Meanwhile PH University also has one of the best law departments in country. Uni saw "ka-ching" (that is noise that occurs when filipino sees that maybe it possible to get money from foriegner ) opportunity.
What makes case very suspicious is that from when suit was launched to when it went to court was only 3 months, which is like lightning speed here. More suspicious is that judge decided very quickly and ordered M$ to pay out 50M damages. It was rumored he got 10% of settlement . Again everyone knows that M$ has deep pockets and 50M is chump change. Also it gets M$ to STFU about PH not enforcing copyright infringment.

Meanwhile probably on the street in front of courthouse, or in closest shopping mall pirated CD/DVD copies of M$ products are being sold . But again cops never take really action against piracy here, since if they did then a zillion vendors would be out of work. And then if that happened they might get silly ideas like they should go to the streets and riot.

Also if you are rich, being "community minded" is very important. Rich people are expected to constuct schools, construct churches, sponsor fiestas and other things which keep the unwashed masses happy. So that 50M is being used to improve the Uni
