im liking windows 7 pretty well so far. this giz article does a decent job of covering the things I have been liking about the task bar.

Does Windows 7 do multiple desktops and desktop switching?

I'm only cursorily interested at this point, as I do positively 0 things in Windows and none of my boxes run it except as a VM, but it still does look intriguing.

nope, but that is easily handled with any number of apps that do it. probably why they have never bothered to build it in.

I really wish I could have an OS that is open source, and gives me BASH, but allows me to run any and all MS apps. We're like 90+% of the way there with many popular Linux distros, but just not quite.

here is a real smooth sysinternals app that gives you 4 virtual desktops....it is fast and very smooth.  the only deficiency is that you can't move windows from one desktop to another, they have to originate at their 'home.

I second nutballs, Windows 7 blows the socks off of xp and vista.  I was really really surprised.  Not only has it ran all of my programs but the coolest thing ever is that is accepts/utilizes drivers from win2k, xp, OR vista.  doesn't freakin matter.  MS should have caught on to that a LOT sooner.

at any rate, windows 7 is prettymuch staunch.  it makes a great desktop...shit runs faster then xp, they leaned up a lot.
