i have successfully woken on lan pc's w/i my own network using a simple WOL app.  two thoughts i have on this subject is:

-i can wake XP machine out of Standby, but i cannot do the same for 98 or what a linux distro like Ubuntu calls "Suspend".  i can however wol boot and PXE kicks in and after a couple mins, fully boots the machine from a completely shut down condition.  any reasons for this or ways around it?
-i've read much on wol through internet, like Depicus for instance: http://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/woli.aspx  and despite me having a Linksys WRT54G with the DD-WRT firmware installed, it will not let me wol through internet despite having UDP configured for port 9 and broadcast ip as .255 so it will be the broadcast address and be sent out to all pc's on my network with only the one matching my mac address being wol'ed.  any ideas on what i am doing wrong?

The only setup i ever remember this working with was certain proprietary COMPAQ computers in the late 90s but other than that it beats me.  I have had ZERO reliable success with this and am insterested to read what may follow.
