Facebook Lost U.S. Users Last Month
http://www.myfoxny.com/dpp/news/facebook-lost-us-users-last-month-20110613-ncx

The United States lost nearly six million users in May, Inside Facebook said, falling from 155.2 million at the start of May to 149.4 million at the end of it.
Canadian users fell 1.52 million to 16.6 million during the month and Britain, Norway and Russia all posted losses of more than 100,000, Inside Facebook said.

Internet time usage has remained constant if not increased.
What is the cause of this ?
What are the users doing instead ?

I was wounding this as well.

Two thoughts. Economy is starting to recover and people who were desperate for things to do over the past few years are now no longer desperate.
Or
The rapture has started.

Hmm. Could this report be manufactured to depress an IPO so that early jumpers get a bigger upside? Or is the loss of users report sweatworthy for the lords of FB?

I spent a few minutes signing up for and trying all the other social networking
options out there...

myspace is not only dead but is the opposite of anything it may have once been.
Cant even figure out how to use it.
tumblr isnt narcissistic enough.... theres a like button (its actually a heart) on some
pages and not on others (even though its the same content just launched from seperate
spaces)
linked in, stumbleupon,

there is no other solution out there so if they aarent facebooking i think they are
just ggoing back to work , etc LOL @ NUTBALLS and the rapture... yea itt happened man,
but we are all still here cuz we be like sinnin' yo.

So im goofin around making a facebook replacement...for fun!

People use facebook for many reasons....
a) to connect with people they wished theey
would have hooked up with back in the day and now that they are both fat the chances are better.
b) to connect with people and shamelessly and desperately self promote and market.
c) to invite you as an event to their kids second birthday party.
d) to brag about their non-exceptional lives and blather on about themselves... some not so tactfully.
e) to share cat pictures.
f) to stalk their spouses, bosses, crushes, etc like a rash.
g) to aprise everyone they have ever known about every single cup of coffee they drink.
h) to complain about traffic, etc.

never understood really the psychology of it except that people just love the shit out of themselves,
and just 'like' being 'liked' all over the place..... Did it ever make sense to speak to everyone youve
ever known all at once in a gigantic room and only talk about yourself?

It does if u want to keep a large user base of self lovers.....

I think FB only lost N. American users, right?
5 million out of 150 million?

Probably just a glitch in the radar or some spammers deleted their old accounts.

World wide, they gained 10 million that month I think.

Wink

http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/facebook.com
http://www.quantcast.com/www.facebook.com#traffic

Alexa and quantcast are not showing any loss.
In fact a slight gain.

I would go with perks.
Depress the initial IPO, brokerage house buys back stock.
Then report it gained by 20M users 2 months from now.

The report offers no figures.

didnt think about pumpndump. perk probably nailed it.

another reason why thats probably true. How do they determine users leaving?
canceled accounts? who actually closes or cancels an account?
less hits? um its summer duh.
less logins? same.
less accounts being visited? same.

i agree, its horseshit to pump and dump.
