I'm not a huge privacy paranoid but this is yet another case of holy shit watch out!  But once locked into a contract what are we to do?   Undecided

You can get a pre-paid phone with zero ties to you personally.  I'd think those with actual privacy concerns would jump at the chance to avoid situations such as these

You are spot on ... but the truth is that our information is so out there (and in so many fashions and styles) that another version at the phone company is hardly the largest worry ... especially with the benefits of the new phones as an offset.

But DAMN. I've been considering post my methods for securing our CC data to avoid just such a thing... I think perhaps I will. More folks need to know how to avoid this kind of thing.

Old news that is finally coming out Smiley.
I suspect stuff like this is happening a lot more then we hear about it.

It is a pretty hard crime to prove.
A few years back when a small developer company started to go under (mainly due to mismanagement).
Everyone started to grab what they could from the company. As in computer equipment etc.
Once of the database admins grabbed the entire DB containing the contact info.
Because of the nature of the company it had high income users, and the admin then sold the DB to spammers for a pretty penny.

CC info is the least of ur worries. Some call center employees here once in a while are silly and steal CC numbers.
They are almost always caught. Very silly to steal CC info.
