Just out of curiosity, what kind of pricing you guys have over there? Over here we average out at about 30-40 euros per month for 8/1Mbps ADSL connection. 24Mbit ADSL2 costs about 50 euros. If you live in capital area (around Helsinki), you can get 200/10Mbps cable connection which I currently have and it costs 55 euros per month. Like we talked about a month ago, you guys have much better technical architecture over there and not to mention a lot more people (there's 6 million people in Finland right now) so it should be pretty cheap to have fast ADSL or cable connection? Is capping really an issue, does it actually happen? For some reason it's like the worst sin operator could do here in Finland. They made the mistake of promoting ADSL connections as "always on, download as much as you can" mentality so if they would cap how much you can download or slow down your speed, they would get publicly lynched

Same here except they buried a FIOS wire a few weeks ago and grass is growing over it
and im just staring out the window and pleasuring myself to it for the moment
 but soon , very soon i will be 10 feet from that grafitti magnet box... only 10-12 literal
feet from the street hub light moving through plastic baby...

I measure internet by the available real upstream bandwidth available... some dsl's cap you at 44kbps
which doesnt work for uploading huge websites...

FIOS super duper is about 80 some bucks a month...  and has real ul speeds of around 3-600kbps

i have the 6/1 40$ a month dsl deal and i can push at 80-100kbps upstream through ftp or p2p
and its tolerable.
THe other option is any level of Cox cable from 19$ for a 'worse than dial up' to 80$ for a
decent 300kbps upstream...

Jeez, that's nice Is it 3Gigs both ways or just the downstream?

You probably can't even get 3Gigs here unless you are willing to pay A LOT.

though, between the hours of 9 and 10:30pm, I am on the un-documented, fuck-you-plan. ie, you want internet to play or watch hulu? fuck you.

For $190 you get 50Mbps down and 10 up here in Silicon Valley.  Hmmm, perhaps going into the ISP business is a good idea after all

Well with HDFS cluster and up to the task network shouldn't be very hard... Of course I haven't done it so I can't say for sure but in theory

I called hawaii from the east coast in 82 and it took approximately
1.5 seconds for a full duplex of a single character from the bbs software
through the cable... wasnt a call satellite at that time i dont believe..
one byte all the way to hawaii and back 1.5 seconds...
