It APPEARS that Android was clean room developed, as the article states. If it was, Oracle will have a rough time with that one.

The real drag will be if Google does not stick to it's guns and just pays off Oracle, in which case a pseudo-precedent will be created.

This is usually what happens anyway and it's largely what patents are all about.  On the bright side, a patent can be used to protect against this happening.  However, when times get tough public companies pull their patent cards out to save the ship.  See Palm for details  Nerd
