This would be hot!  64-bit ubuntu server would totally rock with this as a base component.

From the Apache Foundation this morning:
=====================================================================

Hi,

there's an attempt, to get hadoop into the Debian Linux distribution. For now, this is more a pre-announce, since the package still has to pass some review.
But you may already want to add your review and comments to the current state:

Packaging repository:
http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-java/hadoop.git

Source package:
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/h/hadoop

No binary package for now. If you do not now, how to build the binary package, you may most likely want to wait until other have reviewed the packaging.

From the TODO list/wishlist:

* Package native libraries
* Package more contribs
* Work with upstream on a build system, that can be reused for packaging
* Test the package for reliability
* Cleanup the shell scripts
* Add logrotation to everything in /var/log/hadoop

You can meet me next weekend at fosdem, if you like:

Thanks to cloudera for their initial work on debian packaging!

Best regards,

I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code.
