I'm seeing some issues with gmail today and looked around for any service disruption or outage stats.  Apparently I'm one of the lucky 0.009% of gmail users affected by this issue  Roll Eyes

Yeah right.  They can't even briefly describe the nature of this intermittent problem yet they are absolutely certain that only 0.009% of users are experiencing it  Sarcasm

the engineer probably said exactly this: (which i have said many times myself)

"would you rather I spend 30 minutes explaining it to you, or 30 minutes fixing it?"

Absolutely.  Yet asserting a silly number like 0.009% on the "no time to explain" fly is a joke.

and cats.  and britney spears.

Really, "gmail down" works great on twitter search. I've heard that it's reliable as an post-tremor earthquake announcing system, too.

Its pretty much the only thing I have found twitter to actually be useful for as well.
"emergency status" information. The tsunami warning in hawaii was an example. Better and more timely than the news. (like thats hard)

Yeah, Twitter is useful for stuff like "What's really happening with the trains, why are they delayed" and the like.  But mostly I find it a big waste of time, for people that get an ego boost from having hordes of "followers" who care what kind of jam they used on their toast in the morning.
