Does anyone here know anything about Flash cookies or Flash LSOs?

I hear they are ideal for long term remote storing of information or tracking.  Apparently they store up to 100k of data.

Perhaps there is someone on this forum with the knowledge that would be so kind as to create a couple of generic flash objects.

The first would be a setcookie object that takes in a name/value pair and stores it as an LSO or possibly even a 3rd party LSO.

The second would be a getcookie object that would retrieve the stored data in a way passable to javascript.

That kind person would be my hero!  Praise

::Perk snickers to himself, now quite sure the direction that cd1 is going::

If you are serious and this project is worth it, then you should invest in Flash to get their IDE - there are also some free/shareware generators out there as well I believe. ActionScript is not difficult, and all your answers lie there. This is not that tough actually, but Flash cookies dropped are terribly difficult for the normal (and normal++) user to either detect or eliminate. And they are automatically cross browser, making them even more potent.

but if what you are thinking is cookie stuffing for other sites, I am pretty sure that flash does not ahve access to the browser cookie store, but instead its own personal cookied store. Not positive though, but pretty sure.

I flash my cookies all the time.

Has wound me up in some overnight prison stays, once or twice.

You mean the Kaptain? I'd never flash my cookies without him influencing me in that direction to begin with!

@Perkiset:

Yep, you probably have a decent idea where this is going. I was hoping to avoid having to learn actionscript since I was trying to shorten my project list instead of lengthen it. Wink

But, anyhow, I downloaded the Adobe Flex SDK (Free, BTW) and I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Does anyone have any clues on how to make the LSOs cross-domain accessible? Everything I'm reading says that the info is stored in a directory structure that contains the site that stores the cookie.

i think its just a little xml file you put on the domain you want to allow xdom with? not sure though, since Ive never actually done it.
might just be a checkbox somewhere.
