I installed FF3 on the bedside laptop but don't like it, haven't upgraded the daily-use machine.  Anybody here using ff3 all the time now?

i have been since it went public. works fine by me. what bothers you about it? i tend not to be too picky, if it displays the page, it worked. and it has plugins that actually improve my work flow, so thats a bonus.

Ive been using ff2 in my 98 virtual
concurrently with ff3 in my xp virtual
 and havent noticed a difference in either

 but sad to see that message on the ff2 that its the last update and this means that the usability of 98 just died but ten years is a pretty good run... i mean up until ff3 came out you could still go to every site and have all current java jre's and blah blah you could still technically get by on a 98 system....

What about all the phoning home to check on the anti-phishing databases? On my laptop with ff3 the disk whirs for about 5 or 10 minutes every day when first booted. I hate that, makes me feel like I need a damn firewall.

Also, I changed the 'magic/super bar' (or whatever they're calling the location bar today) back to a near-ff2 version.

Yeah, I installed it on the bedside laptop when it first came out to test it. A#1 was the change in the location bar 'feel'. Fixed that with some plugins.
Now I just dislike the background polling.

It was also supposed to be faster. I guess that didn't happen.

general rules of software:
it never gets faster
new versions will always do more than you want it to.

I turned off the phishing filter and such initially, but decided im getting older and more retarded, so i turned it back on...

Noscript migrated (noscript is aggravation enough. damn, they churn out an upgrade every other day) , so I could turn off the phish-grinder.

I have never dealt with phishing filters or ad sense or anything cause
i dont really do any 'dirty surfing' unless in old times on a box that i would
porn out or whatever and then use norton ghost to do the equivalent of
'snapshot restoration' in a virtual... the real virus is already installed by
your choice whne you 'purchased' an oem number or clicked accept on
FF ..... i just gave up a long time ago on my privacy and decided i dont
realy give a fish about what someone knows about me cause they still have
my ip and mac address if they are that adept at it and can still keep records
.... unless i spoof mac and spend all my energy trying to cloak my id..., kinda makes me feel important that someone out there cares enough about me to want to know all my shit and makes me feel all sexy and what not....    There is no way to avoid 'phoning home' . everybody every app does
it and at the speed of the tubes these days way before you could ever know it.... just
cant spend all my time worrying about it.  and you cant tell me that osx isnt phoning
home constantly either otherwise these hackintoshes would fly so much easier.

There are times in xp when your shit wont work until you click 'send error report' (translation phone home) and then xp works brilliantly..... <sigh>

Must be a windows-only feature. FF3 comes pretty stark and bare bones when you install it or (better yet) compile it from source on Linux. But that's the reason I use linux, customizability.

Have you installed it on your eeePC? I'm fairly certain you can turn off the anti-phishing silliness. I used to love Opera but FF3 pretty much took care of that addiction for me.

No, still ff2. I disliked the location bar and disk-grinding so much on the first test that I went to full-stop-wait-for-better mode. It's only installed on an xp machine. Various other machines with vista, xp, and linux are on hold.

I'll check.  With ff2 being relegated to orphan status, I'm going to have to move on sometime soon. On my work desktop I have a policy of making myself use whatever dogfood is being served to the public (though I had to put IE on a secondary, force-myself-to-use-occasionally status) --otherwise my sites run the risk of having traffic-killing problems that might slip by me in elitist mode.
