<slight hijack>
ITTO - I don't believe you are correct re. email inflow. There is a timing section in the setup that allows it to check on whatever interval you want. I have mine set to 30 minutes, but if I go to email faster than that, it checks when I bring it up. It is pretty much always up to date when I come to it.

Hmm...  well I had my iPad for at least a week yet didn't always have it turned on when I noticed how behind my email was.  When I opened up the email client directly and forced a send/receive it would start flowing in.  Finally I did this and left it on all night before it got current.  Then after it was up to date, I fought with it for a while but just found emailing to be clunky with all fingers on a touchscreen.  It kind of became a novelty item for me that *might* be used occasionally for browsing and perhaps other simple tasks.

I suppose an iPad in the hands of one who really doesn't like iTunes, who doesn't own a Mac and who otherwise doesn't sync information with it is not a huge value.  If I liked gaming on it that might be another possible fun use but I just don't like the feel.  I agree with RC about the quickness from boot to browse, which is nice.  But the site "stickyness" of the pad + Safari proved a dangerous combination, especially when what you were last browsing is something you don't want members of a business meeting glancing at when you first turn the iPad on  Embarrassed

So I sold it and bought this really amazing vacuum!!

I use that thing all the time Wink

I also recently won two other hackathons and now I'm shopping for a laptop with the $500 in Amazon credit   Grin  Looked at the Kindle....  Vomit  Just another hook in my wallet

@ITTO
The biggest problem with Apple products is there biggest strength.
Mainly 95% of the time it automatically does what you want it to do, and it protects stupid users.

So with Android, because you can make "services" it opens up all sorts of possibilities for programs.
FB,Yahoo Messanger etc. Can automatically notify you when a message arrives etc.

Another program which is very cool is one called tracker.
You turn it on. It is 2 parts. A service and a program. When the service is running it takes a GPS reading every X seconds.
Then you end up with a cool plot which shows a track where you went.
This is just not possible with iphone/ipad. Also since you can directly access the file system, various programs can share files.
On iOS all programs run in a "sandbox" except for the special apple ones.

But then again with those features, the average user can hurt himself.

Am I the only person who uses exchange, and as a result I get push emails? It's not immediate, but close.

Gps is background active on iOS 4. I know your point, just clarifying that specifically was an iffy example now.

Proves my point Wink It was early, just could not think of good examples.
Facebook, IPOD player, Yahoo Messanger can all run in the background (not sure if they "hide" the window like M$ or android strategy which you make 2 programs, a service and a GUI).
So basically it means Apple is playing the M$ game. Where there are 2 sets of API. One for buddies of Apple, one for the average stupid app developer.
So that means you can not make a useful audio player, etc. That means that you are forced to play music using Apples approved formats.
Granted you get more "safety", but in many cases Apple is using it to keep a monopoly. VLC iphone/ipod version was rejected by apple.

There are still tons of blackberries out there, and lots of happy blackberry users.
It all depends what u want.

Anyway maybe i can go to store and check out Samsung tablet today, too busy yesterday Sad

I fired Exchange years ago.

"Samsung Galaxy Tab Sales Hit 2 Million since the device went on sale in November

Unlike the iPad, the Samsung Galaxy Tab is available only as a 3G-connected device tied to a mobile carrier, but Samsung has said it will sell a WiFi-only version later this year."

>Samsung 2 million

CEO now says that figure is ship-outs, i.e., shipments to stores and outlets.  Actually consumer sales are much lower than 2M.

>cheapest

Engadget says that the Nook Color is the best for the money ($250). And it's been hacked to Android 3.0. I still wouldn't buy it.  7" screen is too small.
