www.1and1.com.  Not bad.  For $3.99 per month you can have this

The eCommerce packages might be of interest to perks, in terms of competition or perhaps finding a future cloud approach to maintaining existing customers Wink

I've been using 1&1 for hosting for several years, got started a few years back when they offered a year of free hosting and domain registration (figuring, rightly, that folks wouldn't jump ship when they had to start paying.)  But their prices are reasonable and the service has been good, not that I've ever needed to call them for anything.  Their online tools work fine.

Good to know - thanks!  I'm considering getting one just to have the domains and a cloud space to write sample apps in (Python, PHP, etc.)  I've been experimenting with different mash ups between Force.com and others, but having a place to bring the data in for whatever I want is awfully tempting.

One commonality I've noticed with PaaS clouds is that cron-like operations are frowned upon.  There are plenty of good reasons for this like protecting you from API overages/excessive charges and maintaining a stable multi-tenant environment for others to play in as well.  Having a cron job wake up every minute to query other clouds for updates is an example of what to avoid, unless the design requires it.

That said, I'd like to wake up every x-minutes and soap into a set of Salesforce orgs to grab data changes and trickle it all into a lightning fast, no governor limit OLAP environment.  The blend of clouds that handle most everything you need with dedicated, perfectly provisioned environments to accomplish the magic, edge-case services is, imo, the holy grail of web 2.0  Smiley

Any idea how they calculate "2000 visitors"? I mean that offer sounds like it's waiting to get abused by someone as storage space Cheesy Is it 2000 requests to the server or? Does FTP connections count?

Any experiences with this so far? I'm looking these "unlimited" hosting options for file hosting/streaming but at least with Dreamhost, my experience hasn't been all that good. I tried to stream 90MB video with Dreamhost and couldn't get it playing smoothly with 200Mbps connection.. However uploading & downloading with FTP works fine so in my opinion that's a clear sign that they are capping the speed for movie streaming and http file downloading.
