Just do PHP CLI.

Or just use Perl. They're really not even different enough to be worth noting. I can code just fine in Perl with a reference handy.

lol

Remember also, that this is not a 'doz machine Nuts: an install of PHP will not integrate itself with anything. It's pretty much standalone (unless you specifically request it to integrate with Apache) ... it's just another executable that won't do anything on your box until you call it.

I get VS' thought of "just use PERL" but I already have too many languages involved in my systems... having a PHP interpreter handy is a delightful thing to me.

the only reason I think towards perl is because I think its already installed as part of the core of ubuntu. or is it python? or both?

i know its not windows, but still. less=more is always my rule (except when it comes to talking... lol).

bah.
I gonna think about Vs idea of php-cli though.

I'm just ranting in any case. I have a personal bias against PERL and it shows.
The syntax just tastes funny to me.

Have a great one Nuts Smiley

Python is installed on nearly every Linux distro by default.

It's just so damned useful!

Perl is *most likely* installed, and it gets installed with the Server Edition of Ubuntu.

ok i have figured out whats causing it.
upon startup, debian is running mysqlcheck.
and because I have a ginormic innodb table, thats slowing it down.

however, it is supposed to be non-blocking, but for some reason it is blocking and inbound queries get stuck into a wait state, which eventually gets HUGE, and takes a long time to catch up.

Side question - why did you go InnoDB - are you concerned about roll-backable transactions? That's the only reason I've ever used it... the MySQL ISAM is what compares in speed to Oracle ie., it just blows doors.

I'm wondering if many of your speed problems, which seem so very weird to me, are because you're Inno rather than ISAM...

i have some queries that run pretty long. The table locking of Myisam pooches the whole joint.
innodb is row locked, so queries continue to flow.

Id be perfectly happy switching back to myisam, if I could stop the damn table locking.
