No you are correct - according to the letter of the Apple Law, I may only get apps from their store.

Yes I can jailbreak, yes I can grab source from other people and compile it into my phone like a Linux machine as well. My point was that I can get any kind of content I want (music, movies etc). To answer your question directly, if there is an x-rated game that has source, then yes I can install it on my phone without the store. But if someone wants to sell a closed-source x-rated game and I don't choose to jailbreak it's not happening.

The argument is often that I am restricted from access to the world's information. Arguably, the world's information lives on the web and not within an app. So although Apple controls the gate to my App experience, they do not control the gate to my content experience or ability to access the world's information.

I concede that Apple has a lock down on the user's experience, but to a certain degree that's why people buy it - it is controlled, brilliant and "just works" rather than open, uncontrolled and scattered. It's the choice of the purchaser.
