I ralphed after I read this: Adobe’s Flash products are 100% proprietary. They are only available from Adobe, and Adobe has sole authority as to their future enhancement, pricing, etc. While Adobe’s Flash products are widely available, this does not mean they are open, since they are controlled entirely by Adobe and available only from Adobe. By almost any definition, Flash is a closed system. Hypocrisy 2 Captain Closed doesn't like it when the tables are turned Another Adobe claim is that Apple devices cannot play Flash games. This is true. Fortunately, there are over 50,000 games and entertainment titles on the App Store Narcissistic megalomaniac, ignorance inducing profiteer. There's my initial take. Once I replenish my bodily fluids from all this ralphing I'll comment more intelligently

Hypocrisy 2 Captain Closed doesn't like it when the tables are turned Jeez dood, read the very next line. He admits instantly that the iPhone OS is closed as well, only that they've adopted open standards for their browser, like HTML5, CSS3 etc. In context, his statement is accurate ... Flash is not open, HTML5 is. The thing that Steveo leaves out is Apples desire for contol of the platform, which definitely is also a defining factor in this argument. I don't find any essential flaw in the way he describes it, except for the flaw of omission ... Apples desire to maintain utter control over their platforms.

I'm not a fan of developing in the language, but it has a lot of really great uses. I can't see much of an argument for writing a desktop application in anything besides Java anymore.

To be clear, I believe it too. It's probably the only real reason Apple bans Flash. They just can't get it working well

I dont believe its any one thing. But his points are not without merit in my opinion. I think a major reason is control overall. Not just the app store, but user experience and safety. flash is security nightmare, and a stability killer.

Tis troof. Flash is without doubt the number one thing that introduces instability into my system. If I leave a web page with flash on it running for a while, regardless of browser, it sucks RAM and more often than not will eventually freeze the browser. Personally I'm glad that there's an effort afoot to offer an alternative because I hate flash. But at control: I think there are clear user-based reasons for banning flash. But in no small part this is a control exercise as well. If people can code flash and create "apps" where u don't need the app store, then the drive to learn objective C is smaller ... Fewer coders ... Fewer apps ... Less prominence... Trendy hipster style market penetration rather than fundamental penetration... You get the picture. It's just convenient that Flash is an abortion, or Apple would need another excuse.
