Wow is this cool. I threaded of a bazillion possibilities in a very short amount of time. Not the least of which is to simply strap a few around strategic parts of your body to control an avatar.

my main interest in the gyro is for VR shooters.

Between this and Kinect (project natal) I am very excited about my toys this year.

There's a lot of possibilities. One is that you could track position inside apartments with that, assistant to GPS. That would require the phone to be on which is a bit bummer unless gyroscope has some sort of functionality in standby mode.
