...otherwise known as Apple Distraction Disorder. It's almost as if my RSS notifications are the human equivalent of "Squirrel!!!"

Crap, the amount of rumors and excitement (both real and fostered) surrounding the quickening press junket Jan 27th (there can be only one!!!) is hitting an incredible pitch. Everyone seems to be in on the game, even the NYT today says that it's looking forward to re-inventing itself on the Apple Tablet. The rumored features run from schlock (it's an iPhone, but bigger!) to shock (it'll single-handidly convert the entire media universe) only make things worse. Man, Apple better really have a home run sitting in wait, because if this thing is anything less that galactically amazing, there'll be a large and loud thud when my stock hits the ground.

Of course the latest rumors about a camera literally living IN the monitor itself are wild, as well as the thought that Apple has preordered all the 10.1" LCD and OLED screens available in the world today (yes, ALL of them) - but they are not necessarily cohabitable. Then there's the "iWork has been reworked to be deployed gratis on the tablet and it'll be all finger controlled" makes for all kinds of interesting thoughts, as does the most recent verification that the Wired team is working specifically on a tablet version of their magazine now.

I must admit, they've got me. I watch my rumor threads constantly to see what's the next piece of info - I'm like a frickin' kid waiting for Christmas. Not just because I'll have to have one (it's the law, you know) but because if this is even 1/2 of what all is said about it, it's going to create a veritable FLOOD of new technology, knock offs, gadgets and capabilities, just as the iPhone did.

I think this is going to be one helluva year. I personally am betting that we are just in front of one of the largest economic expansions ever seen ... and this one will be lead by REAL tech, not unfulfillable promises like the dotBomb. I think Apple will be a strong part of it, and I think almost every sector will be affected.

Ooooh, I just can't wait.

Haha, I'm just the opposite actually. I'm curious but honestly, I really don't care. I can't see any aspect in this device changing anything I currently do so I guess that's the reason. I don't read any newspaper and I'm on the road quite rarely so iPhone is enough mobile device for me. If iPhone doesn't cut it, then I'll take my laptop out of the bag. And I really can't see tablet replacing laptop but I might be wrong on this. Especially when it comes to coding, I think there just isn't any way to do good enough touch keyboard in small screen that would be good enough. Only thing that comes to mind where I would use tablet would be surfing and reading books. Yea well, I don't think that's good enough to extract $499 out of me. But yet again, it's Apple & Steve Jobs... I might be a raving fan in few weeks.

Stop focusing perks.  Start daydreaming about what this latest creation will be.  See yourself buying it, whatever it is.  Now see yourself buying one for every member of your family.  Notice that although you intended to gift each member of your family with a "latest creation," that you actually package and ship them off to ITTO P.O. Box 666....

Talk about core competency: Apple marketing.  I could care less but for some reason I feel like, well I honestly feel like it's really important for me

I suspect some trick akin to the oxygen they pump into casinos to keep you gambling longer!  I'll bet their "Come see our latest creation" banner has some new subliminal advertising technology that no one can currently detect.  If their source was open we would know the truth! Wink

Somebody quoted Jobs saying "this is the most important thing I have ever done in my career", not with those exact words but that was the idea. Now I'm interested to see if I can trust what he says. If it's just a tablet with some normal tablet functionalities with Apple interface, I will be disappointed.

Sweet Jesus, he must be announcing that Apple is going 100% open source!   Shocked

Don't worry, I'm sure a sniper will take him out before he can finish his public statement  ROFLMAO
Either that or the real Jobs is duct taped and whimpering in a car trunk somewhere while our new and "improved" Jobs will announce his life changing iTablet Wink

Hehe, I doubt Apple will ever go open source simply because it's not in their ideology and I can respect that. I'm little bit torn myself with this issue because just like Apple, I want 100% control over the experience and with open source it's a lot harder. But open source yet again produces so much more secure and better code because more eyes are on it. I wonder if there's any ready-made license that allows you to view & submit changes to the code but not actually release it on your own Wink

Oh and it seems that people have identified Apple tablets visiting websites... with iPhone OS 3. Well.. it's a quite disappointment also if it's closed like iPhone is. That would mean that I would be forced to hope that there's some good progs in AppletStore. That was kinda justified with the iPhone but Applet is more like a portable computer to me so I'm not sure if it flies this time..
