Ok,

I am migrating to a MacBook Pro but need to migrate all my Outlook stuff.  Any help other than forwarding all the mail?

Thanks

should be able to just grab your PST file and copy it over?

otherwise...

get a gmail account
set up imap in outlook on the PC
copy email from your "old account" to the new gmail account
wait years....
when done, open up outlook on the mac.
setup the gmail imap account there.
drag all your mail over to your local account on the mac.

done.

"outlook on the Mac?"  Are you suggesting using Parallels and using Outlook on the Mac?

Not sure what @nutballs meant but I wouldn't subject anyone to Outlook on a PC, much less a Mac    I'd deal with the conversion pain and go with another solution.  I'm no Mac expert but there's got to be a host of Outlook alternatives available.  I'd ask Perkiset.  He's the resident Apple fanboi expert  Wink

I'd be better without failed technology.  I'm spending way too much time working around and not working.

Actually there's not a clean and easy way, because MacroShaft wants you to move stuff to Entourage for the Mac, not the mac mail program.

The problem is Outlooks proprietary .pst file. So the first, most important step, is to get the mail out of Outlook and into a standard format.

The way I do it is actually in two steps. First, I install Thunderbird on the PC and import Outlook mail into it. Then I move the mail folders from Thunderbird over to the Mac. Then I start up Mac mail and import from Thunderbird and Voila! You're all set.

Here's an example of moving Outlook to Thunderbird: http://support.real-time.com/tbird/outlook_import.html
(Google: outlook to thunderbird)

then here's an example of moving Thunderbird to Mac Mail: http://www.twistermc.com/blog/2005/07/20/import-apple-mail-to-thunderbird/
(Google: thunderbird to mac mail)

That's pretty damn reliable, because the windows version of Thunderbird does the heavy lifting. Once it's out of Outlook, you're pretty free. There are also for-pay services and programs to do it, but they don't do anything that this technique wont.

Thunderbird is a mail program?  If so, this seem pretty reasonable.  Problem is all my pst files have CRC problems and I have to unscrew them first.  In some cases I have to go through Outlook Express.

Unphuquing the .PST is the first order of business. Now: it may be that the Thunderbird email program (it's to mail what FireFox is to browsing) will walk over the error and you'll get 99% of your mail first time out ... we can hope. If you can get it into Thunderbird by hook or by crook, you're sorted.

If you've been archiving/auto-archiving your email in Outlook you can also try to open the archive(s) and export them to fresh new pst files.

I use Thunderbird on a PC and it's been great.  Good luck  Smiley

outlook = entourage
its the same thing with the same PST files. just different name, which I forgot about.

but using Gmail via IMAP as your conduit works well, no matter what program you are going from or to.
I have had many clients and friends do it that way. slow but easy.

Okay,

Some good ideas.  I have a gmail account and Entourage and will pick up Thunderbird.  At least I have some options to try.  As for my archives, they are also suffering from CRC.

Ouch: Check this out: http://www.howto-outlook.com/faq/crcerror.htm

That claims that it's not Outlook at all, but your drive.
