Why not? It's worked since the Mac was released and spoke like a speak and spell, wowing the world with a little smiley faced computer icon on the small, b/w screen.
Here's the whole point wrapped up in a picture:

It's pretty insulting but I can't blame them at all. The feverish following the iPhone inspired that thinks not about cost, wireless provider freedom, or specs in any way pretty much dictates that Apple is continuing to do the "right" thing until we the people say enough already.
kurdt, nuts, rc, I couldn't agree more. Of course everyone expects this from me but let's be serious about one thing here. $499 for a wifi only tablet? That's really pricey. In fact, it's almost an insult except if you consider the following (no pun intended): Apple has given the world
no choice but to pay higher prices for their top quality hardware workmanship. This is nothing new and let's face it people, this is what we expect from Apple and they need to pay their people who dedicate the time, brains and passion to bring these products to life.
To kurdt's point I agree, it is rather disappointing that nothing really new or very innovative was born today. But what if it was slightly different in a way that made it appear to be innovative in an Apple enthusiast approved way?? Apple would
still be gouging people to the greatest degree possible and limiting our freedoms to maximize their profits.
So aside from the underwhelming aspect of this announcement, and beyond the letdown of anticipating what could possibly "be the most important thing" Steve Jobs has ever done, this is Apple as usual. They produce fantastic products for upper crust IT people and pass their premiums of cool and perfection on to us.
Sorry they let you down guys. To me today's announcement is right in step with their massively successful approach to business. The iPad will sell like hotcakes I believe. That's the point, the whole point, and always was the point
