lol. i would agree. cool, neato, pointless.

wow. I am just baffled.

The 1 thing that could have turned this thing into an "i'll take two of those" device was a front facing camera with idiot proof video conferencing.
I would buy 1 for my inlaws and 1 for us. They could then talkto and see their grand-daughter whenever they wanted to, from the comfort of the couch. Instead now its a fucking hassle, and your at the computer which blows big balls.

The other would have been an IR port. If they had an IR port, people could rationalize 100 bucks of the purchase since they could use it as a mediacenter remote control. I just spent 100 on a harmony remote, and a big ass tablet would be much easier for my parents to use. Big ass buttons, with actual descriptions.

and the final thing I have been hoping for was multi-unit pairing. So you could transfer docs, or sync data, between multiple units, without being anywhere near each other, over wifi and the tubes. Great way as a shared message board for example. And additionally, to be able to bond to your desktop machine, so you could utilize the storage on it as if it was local (like a cloud in your house), and even use it as a desktop extention, like another monitor. but no....

$500 would have been a no brainer with those 3 things.

You know you're in big trouble when the State Of The Union bullshit address is going to be more exciting than your hyped-up product roll-out.

Why not?  It's worked since the Mac was released and spoke like a speak and spell, wowing the world with a little smiley faced computer icon on the small, b/w screen.

Here's the whole point wrapped up in a picture:

It's pretty insulting but I can't blame them at all.  The feverish following the iPhone inspired that thinks not about cost, wireless provider freedom, or specs in any way pretty much dictates that Apple is continuing to do the "right" thing until we the people say enough already.

kurdt, nuts, rc, I couldn't agree more.  Of course everyone expects this from me but let's be serious about one thing here.  $499 for a wifi only tablet?  That's really pricey.  In fact, it's almost an insult except if you consider the following (no pun intended):  Apple has given the world no choice but to pay higher prices for their top quality hardware workmanship.  This is nothing new and let's face it people, this is what we expect from Apple and they need to pay their people who dedicate the time, brains and passion to bring these products to life.

To kurdt's point I agree, it is rather disappointing that nothing really new or very innovative was born today.  But what if it was slightly different in a way that made it appear to be innovative in an Apple enthusiast approved way??  Apple would still be gouging people to the greatest degree possible and limiting our freedoms to maximize their profits.

So aside from the underwhelming aspect of this announcement, and beyond the letdown of anticipating what could possibly "be the most important thing" Steve Jobs has ever done, this is Apple as usual.  They produce fantastic products for upper crust IT people and pass their premiums of cool and perfection on to us.

Sorry they let you down guys.  To me today's announcement is right in step with their massively successful approach to business.  The iPad will sell like hotcakes I believe.  That's the point, the whole point, and always was the point Wink

how about douchepad.com
lol

anywho. I did just realize something. IF you are thinking of getting an ebook reader, the cheapest one worth its salt is $250.
For the same size kindle, its $489.
so kindle or douchepad? I would go pad. (since of course it does WAY more than just books) but then again, i have no interest in ebook readers...

I have no doubt that it will. But, then again, you know how I feel about the buying public, ITTO.  To quote my dad; "They'd buy a cowpie if it was wrapped in cellophane."

douchepad.com IS available, nb. But I wanted to stay with the nauseating "i" branding motif.

iDog.com is gone.

iDont.com is available Smiley

>cowpie

Apple only sells the finest aged cowpies.  Imported from the south of Ass and delicately wrapped in manties, Apple is committed to the relentless pursuit of commitment, relentlessly.  It's all psychobabble to me.

Apple will begin to innovate again only when they absolutely have to.

During lunch I decided to watch some clips from the big day.  I almost launched food out my nose I was laughing so hard and at other times I actually felt sad for Steve sitting there baiting with his pad alone in a chair.

What a sad day for Apple.  The surprise that Apple dropped on the world was the price, plain and simple.  Steve commented that "the pundits would have you believe that we will be selling it for under $1,000, which means $999."  He then meandered around on stage mumbling endlessly about nothing while this $999 remained on the gigantic screen behind him.

The final punchline came and the crowd roard with applause:

"From $499"  ROFLMAO

I could hear from another dimension: "Billy Mayes here!!!"  What a sham of an infomercial this was.  Yuck!

The thing is, that it "could" actually be worth it at $500. I just think they missed a few features that would have made it a no brainer like I said earlier.

But at the very least, if you want a big ebook reader, why the hell would you go with a kindle at this point?
That in itself is a huge hit to amazon once people start realizing that.

So far, I can't find a fanboi article out there that's giving this a whoop-de-do-all-thumbs-up-gotta-have-it review.

I think this is supposed to be an endorsement.  Billy Mayes, she ain't.

"With prices starting at $499, the iPad is only twice as expensive as a Kindle, plus it plays video games."
