Steve Jobs must have lost this battle... but the users are the real winners!

Actually, the list of features coming in 4.3 looks really good. I'm pretty curious about the new hand gestures and the personal hot spot will get rid of my need to be jail broken and run MyWi.

But yeah ... Dig it the switch is back Smiley

So far as I know, the personal hot spot is only for the CDMA (Verizon) iPhone and iPad.  Or did I miss something?

i dont understand how personal hotspot is different than the tethering that is already in the iphone? i dont get it?

or is tethering kind of like "pairing" in bluetooth? 1:1

Tethering is a 1:1 thing, you can tether your phone to one computer at a time, as I recall, and the Mac/PC actually connects to to the phone via bluetooth.  It's really like using your phone as an internet modem.  The device you are trying to tether must support tethering.  I don't think you can connect, for example, an iPad via tethering (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.)

Personal hot spot turns your mobile device (iPhone/iPad 3G) into a WiFi router, essentially, and a larger number of devices can connect (via WiFi) and share the broadband connection.  Throughput should be faster than tethering (unless a lot of people are sharing the connection) and you wouldn't have to have the two devices in such close proximity, though I doubt an iPhone is going to have a WiFi signal that's as strong or covers the same distance as a dedicated WiFi router.
