pico-projectors are all the rage, but this one, powered by lasers rather than LED looks really great:

... I have a little Altec speaker - with these two components I'mm sensing the very real possibility of pr0n anywhere.

I was looking that this one from HP earlier today. Now seems clunky by comparison. Roughly same price.

I wonder what the replacement times would be.  LEDs come with quite an appealing lifespan...

"The SHOWWX outputs 10 lumens at WVGA resolution (848×480)" ... shit I was hoping new home theatre projector but this obviously is meant for business use. Let's hope they could come up quick with laser projector that has 1920x1080 resolution and can produce crystal clear image on daylight. THEN I'm sold.

update:

The  AAXA P2 Pico Projector is available for around $340. At 33 lumens, it was the strongest pico I could find in the $350 price range. But feature that clinched it was 1G of onboard storage and an microSDHC expansion slot. I'm hoping that I'll be able to set it up to do untethered slideshows.

I'd really need to see one in action to warrant a purchase at 33 lumens ... seems pretty wimpy. I was originally thinking that this in combination with playing a movie on my iPhone would make a great portable rig, but that's been replaced by the iPad. When I actually project, I need something pretty large and strong ... if you go this direction RC I'd love to hear about just how strong it is.

>33 lumens ... seems pretty wimpy

Yeah, but have you seen what other picos are spec-ing re lumens?  Usually in the low teens. And crap resolution to boot. All the reviews are saying "MUST be used in a very dark room!"

>project

I have a real estate office with a lot of glass & wall facing one of the major commercial streets in town. For years I'd been thinking about building a digital billboard by ganging monitors but it was cost-prohibitive. As lcd screens have come down in price I've thought about just parking a 50" screen in the window but I know that's begging that the window would be knocked out and the tv stolen ...just too tempting.

Enter this thread about pico's. The physical space happens to be just about perfect. With the small footprint, low power consumption and long bulb life I can mount it near the ceiling and just fire it up at night and project my billboard.  The little black box won't have the same temptation as a 50" tv.

<added>
Given what even small real estate companies spend on advertising $350 is a no-brainer.

You have clients like that restaurant with the php-gd-image "Daily Menu" right?  ...seems to me that there may be a similar use for them.

>>33 lumens ... seems pretty wimpy

And it is.  It may yet work for my idea but it's going to require fine-tuning of the ambient lighting, projection distances, and pretty narrow selection of photos (bright, high contrasts). In very low light, it will project approx. 50" image pretty well. In dim lighting, maybe 30".

It will run a slideshow or video in standalone mode from the resident 1G memory. Overall, I'm impressed ...but I was hoping for "awed."
