I didn't know until this morning that the CDMA net that Verizon uses is incapable of doing both voice and net simultaneously. I sort of took it for granted, since it's seamless and obvious on my iPhone. That's a pretty big difference between the two, and will harm 'droid phones on the Verizon network IMO - although it should not be a problem for 'droids on AT&T.

Yeah, I only recently became aware that Verizon lacked the ability to do data & voice simultaneously.  I agree that's a major disadvantage.  As much as I hate AT&T, I'd find it hard to dump them for a carrier that couldn't provide that capability.

I was extremely happy with T-Mobile before the iPhone came along, though I don't know how their service is today.  But they use GSM and their 3G map looks like it has could coverage in all the metro areas I care about.  I'd move back to them, I think.  They used to be a lot cheaper, too, dunno about now.

The exclusivity contract runs out in 2010 ... let's hope they don't renew.

Well, let's hope that whatever happens it's best for us iPhone users ...

I'd have to say that T-Mobile was my favorite of the lock-ins

@Verizon limitations - AT&T should make a commercial explaining that.  Wireless pimp-wars!  ROFLMAO

Yep - and this time it's not just the cult talking Wink

Of course, even though AT&T has iPhone exclusivity, I'd think this should come out of the AT&T budget, not Apple's

Hmm. I was going to assert that it's in Apple's best interest to do so ... and that stands, but now that you say this, I've not seen AT&T do any advertising or even any promotion of the phone ... at the stores it's more often other models. So perhaps you're spot on ... this is AT&T's problem ... and it's a biggie. They should be funding it.

I'll betcha there are Apple execs that are saying exactly the same thing... Wink

Honestly, I don't think the ability to be on the phone and use the web at the same time is THAT big of a deal.

As an iPhone user I would never have thought I COULD do this. I would have just hung up the phone, done the research, and texted the person the info or called them back.

My point is that for the 1-2 times per year where this would be really useful and not just a novelty, it isn't worth spending $$$ on advertising for. I don't think it's the feature that's going to convince Joe Sixpack to buy the iPhone.

If you want to avoid drama, come to Finland where all companies play nice and easy because everybody is spineless here. You can read more from this great blog how great country this is.
