2nd line iPhone ?

'Line2 gives your iPhone a second phone number -- a second phone line, complete with its own contacts list, voice mail, and so on. The company behind it, Toktumi (get it?), imagines that you'll distribute the Line2 number to business contacts, and your regular iPhone number to friends and family. Your second line can be an 800 number, if you wish, or you can transfer an existing number.'

Looks good but the problem we're having with multiple lines is that cells capture the incoming numbers and put them in recipient's contact list. So if you ever dial out on line 1 to a designated line 2 contact, he's going to have line 1 in his contacts. This has become enough of a problem that one of the main criteria for the new hosted pbx voip system we're ordering was that the pbx would be able to mask the true outgoing number (lines 2, 3, 4) with a default (line 1).

I just thought it was really cool you know you could have a
seperate number that rang only when it was these
few people ... turn the one off or on... business/personal
so you could have your wife call to wake you in an emergency
but not that mushbutt that call every five minutes with a new
column that they think is only a new column but completely
deconstructs your entire db schema.
FRIDAY.

Yup, it is cool.

Yeah, but what I'm saying is that over time most people forget to continuously
manage
their out-going caller ID and end up losing the advantage of 'private lines.' Everyone tends to think that people will use the phone number on your business card --they don't. They'll use whatever pops up on their cell.

Interesting point.
I remember reading here someone posting that 25% of the
humans on the earth are now on the internet? How many
of those people are on mobile devices? Most of them, not thinking.
I guess mobile pr0n is a good thing to look into.. you know theres
a fone at walgreens for 10$ that can do WAP so if you could just
get some WAP pr0n going on then youd be in biness... hahaha

>25%
Up that to 91% now for US. 23% of households have dropped their landlines.

I cross-checked a couple of sites and those percentages were legit. Kinda stunned me that we're that high.
Besides not being able to control what number is logged for contacting you, consider some of the other tectonic shifts in the phone marketplace;
Yellow Pages are a dead man walking.
White pages no longer list significant chunks of the population
800 numbers are ho-hum marketing tools when everyone has a big minute bucket
